So….it turns out that there is a debate among the motorcycle community on the value of wearing high visability clothing or not.
In much the same way as there is a debate about climate change, gun control or whether or not a tree that falls in the forest makes a noise.
As far as I can tell, the only argument against the use of high visability gear on a motorcycle goes like this:
“Fuck off, high viz looks stoopid!”
And it is a reasonable argument. There is no doubt that all black looks way cooler than wearing 80’s day-glo. No doubt.
Any other argument other than the coolness factor just doesn’t hold up. The evidence is conclusive.
According to the data around 75% of motorcycle accidents involving a car derive from the driver not seeing the rider. Rider wearing high viz are 37% safer.
It is a no brainer.
And if you ask me, safer is cool.
