Day 5: Run to the hills!

Start Gallagher Lake, Oliver BC.

500 kilometers today.

Total distance to date:2548KMs (metric, we are in Canada now).

A nice early start and a slow ride through the lower valley, quiet towns along glacier lakes.

We had the obligatory visit to Tim Hortons which is Canada’s version of Krispy Kremes, except with more sugar.

Jacked up on Boston Cream we fired up the triples and headed up Canada Highway 1 towards Banff and in to the Rockie Mountains.
The Rockies!
This is not the direct route to Alaska, we may not even make it all the way to Alaska because of the vast distance we have to cover. So why are we taking the long way?
The Rockies!

And now we are on day one of our Rockie Mountain experience. I do not have the writing skills to explain what this is like. If you are a driver or a motorcycle rider, if you are thrilled by roads with long sweeping bends, this is for you. If breathtaking scenery makes your heart soar, you would enjoy this. If you like cruise ships, you might be a pillock.
We finished our day with a detour to Takakagaw Falls and then found a little camp site not too far from the road. We set up our camp and put all our edibles (including toothpaste) in the bear lockers and got ready to bed down for the night.

More of this tomorrow, please.
