Day 17 – La Balard de la Sprintadora

Start: Neah Bay

End: Cape of Disappointment

Total miles: 245

Total Distance: 4777 miles

Neah Bay at low tide smells really bad, like a million dead and rotting fish in mud. After a quick stop for espresso, we hit the road. It is amazing how much more fun motorcycle riding is when there is no rain.

If you are a fan of teenage girls falling in love with monsters, you have probably seen Beauty on the Beast (I know I have), you may also have seen Twilight?

Twilight was set and filmed in Forks, Washington.

In all this trip I have never been bored with riding a bike, over 4500 miles and I have been thrilled by every one of them (maybe the torrential rain was not thrilling, but it certainly wasn’t boring). I have ridden Dora the 1200 Explorer for all of this, until today. Today I rode The Much Loved Sprint. I love this bike. I love it much. It was like being reunited with an old friend. She is considerably smaller thn the Tiger and a completley different riding style. I was struggling at first, tend I told myself to just ride the road, not the bike and then everything clicked and we were off to the races, so to speak.

Good fun on the 101 with even a taste of warmth. I mean actual warmth, not just the absence of cold. We have been in the cold for what seems a really long time. I have some really good quality riding and camping gear, I have protection from the cold. This was warmth, like a hug from your nana. More please!

We camped at Cape Disappointment and I have to tell you, it was very poorly named. If you were headed there hoping to be disappointed, you would be very, well, disappointed.

A loveley little camp site, we cooked up some steaks and grilled up some peppers and yams. As the sun went down we were visited by the local wildlife which had no fear at all.

Oregon tomorrow.

  1. Yesterday, Sylvie and I were discussing how much we have enjoyed your blogs. Very impressed that you have ridden all those miles, taken stunning photos and then put pen to paper (so to speak) and write of your experiences with such eloquence. I know that you always say that sharing is part of the fun. Well thanks for the sharing. Much love, Mum x

    1. The writing of the blog is sometimes a chore. How to summarize a day, another day of riding a bike on great roads through amazing scenery? But it is also good to be able to log a record of the trip. It helps to look back at it to remember where we were and where we stayed and what we saw on what day. The miles all start to blur into one.
