Day 8 : BEAR!

Start : Big LakeEnd: Fort Nelson B.C.(Motel 6)Distance: 555kmsTotal distance: 4076 (2532 miles)So….here I go again doing my best to describe beautiful scenery and amazing roads. We left a bit later this morning, with cold temperatures and a lake covered in fog, our tents were soaked with dew.The ever changing terrain had us riding under dramatic skies through a massive river valley and in to First Nation Territory (isn’t all of North America first nation territory?).We rode up highway 29 had breakfast at Charlie Lake and then we turned on to Canada 16 “The Alaska Highway”.The scenery changed again, now we have trees.I said in a previous blog that there are “so many trees”, but I was like a child who had seen the great lakes and said “so much water” and now I am like that same child dropped in the Atlantic Ocean. There… Are… So…MANY….TREES!!!There is a road cut through a forest and it does not stop. The forest is eternal. The road is forever. We rode for over 100kms today before we saw another vehicle. We might pass a truck and not pass another for 50 kilometers. A driver’s paradise. The pines are mixed with aspens and every mile north we go, more of the leaves are turning. It is like we are driving in to winter. We saw a bear. The distances between towns gets greater. We fill up at every gas station. We chose to get motel rooms tonight for the chance to sleep in a real bed, have a hot shower and do some laundry.I am taking the time in a warm room to dry out my tent.

Morning mist on the lake.
A little museum and church in the nation
