Well, leading up to this trip I wrote a post about how adventure, by definition, includes some trauma. And we had a little of that today. The left front fork seal on Dora’s suspension started leaking. Again, a call in to LG Moto and we determined that it will not effect performance too much, however he did recommend strapping on a paper towel to soak up the oil to prevent it from leaking on to the brakes. The drama continued as while we were trying to figure out our band-aid repair, we dropped her off the stand and broke the turn signal!Another turn signal, another gaffer tape repair!it is a real drag, it adds uncertainty to the riding which up until this point has been so joyous. The nearest Triumph dealer is in Vancouver. I tried to reach them earlier today and left a message. I will call them again when I get service. Vancouver is still 2000 Klicks away. She will have to be OK.We turned on to highway 37 today and started our South Westerly leg. We have reached the most northerly point in our journey. Now we head to Alaska.
Highway 37 is considerably more rustic than the Alaskan highway. It does not have the wide shoulders and so far has no lane markings. We take this all the way to where we cross in to Alaska. Our camp today is at Boya Lake in British Columbia. Only 340 kms today but we are both ready for an early one and this place is pretty special.Right when we pulled up, another adventure bike appeared, a big GS1200 BMW. He stopped and chatted at us for a couple of minutes to let us know how much more adventurous he was than we and then went off to sleep in the freshly hollowed out carcass of a beaver. Dick!We also met an old fella from Australia who was cycling back from Alaska, he had started in Lima, Peru. Does everybody here need to be more hardcore than us, jeez!?Boya Lake is sublimely peaceful, the water is so clear and so blue, if it was 30 degrees warmer it could be in the Caribbean.I borrowed a canoe and paddled about a bit for the afternoon, each turn of the coast line revealing another hidden cove and another spectacle of natural beauty.
As the day ended we were treated to another sunset and a brief glimpse of the Northern Lights once more.
