Day 2: Norfolk

Day 2:

Mad River California to Diamond Lake Oregon.

330 miles.

Ending mileage 640 Miles

Temperature 49F to 91F

There is a part of England called Norfolk, it is quite pleasant. Apparently there are areas with long straight roads that have canals on either side. I know this because, My Mate Chris was reminded of Norfolk on the road in to Klamath Falls, Oregon.

To be fair, there were long straight roads with irrigation canals on either side, but I did not acknowledge that when I asked My Mate Chris, “what was it that reminded you of Norfolk? Was it the mountains, the prairies or the ocean of pine trees?”.

Day 2 started with 90 miles of CA.36. I have hyped this road so much to MyMateChris that I was worried it wouldn’t live up to expectations. I needn’t have worried!

Chris, still on the Much Loved, had the time of his life. We both did. What a ride, what a way to start the day.

We hit Interstate 5 North and enjoyed a few hours freeway ride through the mountains and down in to Weed for lunch.

From Weed we took 97 North. This is the road we will be on up through Oregon, Washington and in to Canada.

I selected a camp site near Diamond Lake which was about 20 miles too far for our bodies to take. It was however another fantastic place to stay.

Life is good.

  1. Love that you left from Weed. Hope you sang Elvis Presley all the way. Did it remind Chris of Norfolk because lots of people had no arms and legs?
